INNER SECRETS

BY MICHAEL DREESE

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then doors are the sentinels to the inner secrets of an abandoned structure.

Who might have passed in and out and what type of experiences did they carry? Does an ageing structure yearn for its busy past or does it accept its impending fate gracefully?

Do I dare step inside or would this act be sacrilege? I often pose these questions as I linger by the door. My questions are seldom answered; My nostalgic yearnings only partially quenched with a two-dimensional photograph that proclaims, “I was here!”
